The Sound of Music - 1965 Full Movie

The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical drama film produced and directed by Robert Wise, and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, with Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, and Eleanor Parker. The film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical of the same name, composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The film's screenplay was written by Ernest Lehman, and adapted from the stage musical's book by Lindsay and Crouse. Based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the film is about a young Austrian postulant in Salzburg, Austria, in 1938 who is sent to the villa of a retired naval officer and widower to be governess to his seven children. After bringing love and music into the lives of the family, she marries the officer and, together with the children, finds a way to survive the loss of their homeland to the Nazis.

How The Sound of Music get world famous

Filming took place from March to September 1964 in Los Angeles and Salzburg. The Sound of Music was released on March 2, 1965, in the United States, initially as a limited roadshow theatrical release. Although initial critical response to the film was mixed, it was a major commercial success, becoming the number one box office film after four weeks, and the highest-grossing film of 1965. By November 1966, The Sound of Music had become the highest-grossing film of all-time—surpassing Gone with the Wind—and held that distinction for five years. The film was just as popular throughout the world, breaking previous box-office records in twenty-nine countries. Following an initial theatrical release that lasted four and a half years and two successful re-releases, the film sold 283 million admissions worldwide and earned a total worldwide gross of $286 million.

The Sound of Music received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, Wise's second pair of both awards, the first being from the 1961 film West Side Story. The film also received two Golden Globe Awards, for Best Motion Picture and Best Actress, the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical. In 1998, the American Film Institute (AFI) listed The Sound of Music as the fifty-fifth greatest American film of all time and the fourth greatest film musical. In 2001, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Ajantrik (known internationally as The Unmechanical, The Mechanical Man, or The Pathetic Fallacy) is a 1958 Indian Bengali film written and directed by revered parallel filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. The film is adapted from a Bengali short story of the same name written by Subodh Ghosh.

A comedy-drama film, Ajantrik is one of the earliest Indian films to portray an inanimate object, in this case, an automobile, as a character in the story. It achieves this through the use of sounds recorded post-production to emphasize the car's bodily functions and movements.

The film was considered for a special entry at the Venice Film Festival in 1959.

মুম্বইয়ের এক ডাকসাইটে গণিকার জীবনকাহিনি অবলম্বনে চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক বানশালির সিনেমা ‘গাঙ্গুবাঈ কাঠিয়াওয়াড়ি’। ঘোষণা হবার পর থেকেই জনা কয়েক লোক আপত্তি তোলে। 

এমনকী মুক্তি আটকে দেওয়ার দাবি তুলে আদালতে মামলাও করে। কোর্টের তরফে সমন পাঠানো হয়েছিল পরিচালক সঞ্জয়লীলা বনশালি ও  অভিনেত্রী আলিয়া ভাটকে।

সাতের দশকের মাঝামাঝি গাঙ্গুবাঈ কাঠিয়াওয়াড়ি মারা যান। তাঁর নিজের কোনও সন্তান ছিল না। যদিও তাঁর মৃত্যুর পর বেশ কয়েকজন দাবি করেছিল যে, তাদের নাকি গাঙ্গুবাই নিজে দত্তক নিয়েছিলেন। এদেরই একজন আদালতে গিয়েছিলেন।

মুম্বইয়ের কুখ্যাত যৌনপল্লী কামাথিপুরাতে বিক্রি হয়েছিলেন। তারপর হয়ে ওঠেন কামাথিপুরার ডাকসাইটে মহিলা। অনেকের কাছেই ‘মুম্বই মাফিয়া কুইন’ নামে পরিচিত হন, যাঁর অনুমতি ছাড়া কামাথিপুরার অন্ধকার গলিতে যেমন সূর্যের আলো ঢোকা নিষিদ্ধ ছিল, ঠিক তেমনই গাঙ্গুবাইয়ের অঙ্গুলি হেলন ব্যতীত কোনও কাক-পক্ষীর প্রবেশের উপরও নিষেধাজ্ঞা জারি ছিল। কিন্তু একদিনে এই অসাধ্য সাধন হয়নি। সেই যৌনপল্লীর গণিকাদের অধিকারের জন্য তিনিই প্রথম মুখ খুলেছিলেন।

গাঙ্গুবাঈ কাঠিয়াওয়াড়ির খ্যাতনামা হওয়ার নেপথ্যের বেশ কয়েকটা কারণ হুসেন জায়েদির ‘মুম্বই মাফিয়া ক্যুইন’ বইতে লেখা রয়েছে। সমাজে গণিকাদের অধিকারের জন্য লড়া থেকে শুরু করে তাঁদের সন্তানদের শিক্ষার জন্য স্কুল-কলেজে গিয়ে কথা বলা, সমাজে যেন মাথা উঁচু করে দাঁড়াতে পারে, সেইজন্য গাঙ্গুবাঈ একাই লড়ে গিয়েছিলেন। শুধু তাই নয়, অধিকার আদায়ও করে নিয়েছিলেন। আর তাঁর অদম্য লড়াইয়ের জন্যই রাজনৈতিক দলেও ডাক পেয়েছিলেন।

গাঙ্গুবাঈ যেসময় মুম্বাইয়ে আসেন সেই সালটা ছিল ১৯৬০, সেই সময়ে মুম্বাইয়ের সবথেকে নামী এবং ভয়ঙ্কর মাফিয়া ছিল করিমলালা, হাজি মস্তান ও ভরদারাজন। সারা মুম্বাই শহর জুড়ে তখন এই তিনজন মাফিয়ার রাজ। করিমলাল এর দলের একাধিক গুন্ডা গুঙ্গীবাইকে ধর্ষণ করেছিল। তবুও হাল ছাড়েননি তিনি। শেষমেষ করিমলালার সঙ্গে দেখা করেন গুঙ্গু। তার এই অদম্য মনোভাব জয় করে নিয়েছিল করিমলালার মন। তারপর থেকেই গুঙ্গিবাইকে নিজের বোনের জায়গা দিয়েছিলেন তিনি। প্রতি বছর রাখিতে গঙ্গুর হাত থেকে রাখি পরতেন।

Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth. It is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom and stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field. The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump (Hanks), a slow-witted and kindhearted man from Alabama who witnesses and unwittingly influences several defining historical events in the 20th-century United States. The film differs substantially from the novel.

Principal photography took place between August and December 1993, mainly in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Extensive visual effects were used to incorporate Hanks into archived footage and to develop other scenes. The soundtrack features songs reflecting the different periods seen in the film.

Forrest Gump was released in the United States on July 6, 1994, and received critical acclaim for Zemeckis's direction, performances (particularly those of Hanks and Sinise), visual effects, music, and screenplay. The film was an enormous success at the box office; it became the top-grossing film in America released that year and earned over US$678.2 million worldwide during its theatrical run, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 1994, behind The Lion King.  ছবিটির গুরুত্বপূর্ণ চরিত্র অপু (Apu) ও দুর্গা (Durga) মানুষের মনে ছাপ রেখে গেছে। ‘পথের পাঁচালীতে' ((Pather Panchali ) ফুটে ওঠা দূর্গা চরিত্রটি গ্রামের আর পাঁচটা সাধারণ মেয়ের মতো ছিল না। গ্রামের মানুষেরা তাঁকে দস্যি মেয়ে বলে ডাকতো। ভাই অপুর সঙ্গে তাঁর বন্ধুত্ব ছিল অটুট। দুই ভাইবোন মিলে ফল, ফুল চুরি ছিল তাঁদের নিত্যকর্ম। দুর্গা ছিল প্রকৃতিপ্রেমী। দিদির সান্নিধ্যে এসে অপুও প্রকৃতির প্রেমে পড়েতে দেখা যায়। দিদির সান্নিধ্যে এসে ছোট্ট অপু অনেক কিছু শেখে বিশেষ করে সাঁওতাল নাচের প্রতি তার আগ্রহ বৃদ্ধি পায়। তারপর হঠাৎ করেই দিদির অস্বাভাবিক মৃত্যু ছোট্ট অপুকে একা করে দেয়।

বাঙালির রত্ন সত্যজিৎ রায়ের(Satyajit Ray) দক্ষ পরিচালনায় ছবির কাহিনী সিনেমার পর্দায় সুন্দরভাবে ফুটে উঠেছে। এজন্যই এটি একটি কালজয়ী সিনেমা। বহু বছর কেটে গেলেও বাংলা ফিল্ম ইন্ডাস্ট্রিতে(Bengali Film Industry) এমন সিনেমা আর তৈরি হয়নি। তবে দীর্ঘ সময়ের পরও মানুষের মনে আজও অপু ও দুর্গা রয়ে গেছে। যে কারণে অনেকেরই মনে প্রশ্ন জাগে যে ছোট্ট অপু আর দুর্গা এখন কেমন আছেন? তারা কি করছেন এখন?

ছোট্ট অপুর চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেছিল সুবীর ব্যানার্জী (Subir Banerjee)এবং দুর্গা চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেছিলেন উমা দাশগুপ্ত (Uma Dasgupta)। ছবিটি নির্মাণের সময় টাকার অভাব ছিল। যে কারণে অনেক অভিনেতা অভিনেত্রী এই ছবিতে কাজ করার জন্য নির্মাতার কাছ থেকে কোন পারিশ্রমিক (Remuneration) নেননি। ‘পথের পাঁচালী’ নির্মাণ করতে সে সময় খরচ হয়েছিল সত্তর হাজার থেকে দেড় লাখ টাকার মত। স্বল্প ব্যয়ের কারণে অনেক অপেশাদার অভিনেতা ও অনভিজ্ঞ শিল্পীদের নিয়ে ছবিটি নির্মাণ করা হয়েছিল। যে সমস্ত অভিনেতা অভিনেত্রীরা বিনা পারিশ্রমিক এই কাজ করেছিলেন তাদের মধ্যে অন্যতম হলো দুর্গা চরিত্রে অভিনয় করা উমা দাশগুপ্ত (Uma Dasgupta) । পথের পাঁচালী কালো জয়ী হওয়ার পিছনে এই শিল্পীর অবদান অনস্বীকার্য।

পথের পাঁচালী ১৯৫৫ সালে মুক্তিপ্রাপ্ত পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার প্রযোজিত ও সত্যজিৎ রায় পরিচালিত একটি বাংলা চলচ্চিত্র। বিভূতিভূষণ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উপন্যাস পথের পাঁচালী অবলম্বনে নির্মিত এই ছবিটি সত্যজিৎ রায় পরিচালিত প্রথম চলচ্চিত্র। অপু ত্রয়ী চলচ্চিত্র ধারাবাহিকের প্রথম চলচ্চিত্র পথের পাঁচালীতে এর মুখ্য চরিত্র অপুর শৈশবকে কেন্দ্র করে বিংশ শতাব্দীর বিশের দশকের বাংলার একটি প্রত্যন্ত গ্রামের জীবনধারা চিত্রায়িত করা হয়েছে।

এই চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় অর্থের সমস্যা থাকায় নির্মাণকার্য ব্যাহত হয় এবং দীর্ঘ তিন বছর পরে তা সম্পূর্ণ হয়। স্বল্প নির্মাণব্যয়ে অপেশাদার অভিনেতা ও অনভিজ্ঞ শিল্পীদের নিয়ে এই চলচ্চিত্র নির্মিত হয়। সেতার বাদক রবিশঙ্কর ভারতীয় শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতের রাগ ব্যবহার করে চলচ্চিত্রের সঙ্গীতাবহ সৃষ্টি করেন। এই ছবিতে সুব্রত মিত্র চিত্রগ্রহণ ও দুলাল দত্ত সম্পাদনার দায়িত্বে ছিলেন। ১৯৫৫ সালের ৩রা মে নিউ ইয়র্ক শহরের মিউজিয়াম অব মডার্ন আর্টের একটি প্রদর্শনীতে চলচ্চিত্রটি মুক্তি পায় ও পরে সেই বছরই কলকাতা শহরে মুক্তি লাভ করলে দর্শকদের প্রশংসা লাভ করে। সমালোচকরা চলচ্চিত্রটিতে প্রদর্শিত বাস্তবতাবাদ, মানবতা ও গুণমানকে প্রশংসা করলেও অনেকে এর মন্থর লয়কে চলচ্চিত্রটির খামতি বলে মনে করেন।

অপুর জীবন সত্যজিৎ রায়ের অপরাজিত (১৯৫৬) এবং অপুর সংসার (১৯৫৯) নামক অপু ত্রয়ী চলচ্চিত্র ধারাবাহিকের পরবর্তী দুইটি চলচ্চিত্রে দেখানো হয়। পথের পাঁচালী ভারতীয় চলচ্চিত্র জগতে সামাজিক বাস্তবতার উপর ভিত্তি করে সমান্তরাল চলচ্চিত্রের ধারা তৈরি করে। স্বাধীন ভারতে নির্মিত পথের পাঁচালী ছিল প্রথম চলচ্চিত্র যা আন্তর্জাতিক মনোযোগ টানতে সক্ষম হয়। এটি ১৯৫৫ সালে শ্রেষ্ঠ চলচ্চিত্র বিভাগে জাতীয় চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার, ১৯৫৬ কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবে শ্রেষ্ঠ মানবিক দলিল পুরস্কারসহ বহু পুরস্কার লাভ করে, যার ফলে সত্যজিৎ রায়কে ভারতের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাতাদের মধ্যে একজন বলে গণ্য করা হয়। এছাড়াও এই চলচ্চিত্রটিকে প্রায়ই সর্বকালের সেরা চলচ্চিত্রের তালিকায় দেখা যায়।

The shooting for the film was completed only in 16 days. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and Aishwarya Rai was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
